Childcare issues are critical in Sioux Falls. Now, Sioux Falls Childcare Collaborative members and other stakeholders will be discussing these issues, along with innovations and solutions around the topic.

Please join us, along with special guests Mayor Paul TenHaken, state childcare representatives, and the new Community Childcare Collaborative Coordinator:

5 – 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 5
EmBe Downtown Location
300 W. 11st St., Sioux Falls

Free tickets are available by clicking the registration button. The event will include a social, networking, beverages and light appetizers.

The 5:30 p.m. program features Mayor TenHaken, whose work with the Sioux Falls Childcare Collaborative brought together community funding to support a 6-month solutions-focused initiative. Childcare industry representatives will be on hand to share new opportunities for statewide collaborative efforts.

Introducing the New Childcare Initiative Coordinator

Highlighting the event will be the introduction of the new Sioux Falls Community Childcare Initiative Coordinator. This role will be responsible for recruiting and engaging community champions in the business and government sectors in Sioux Falls, and providing research and analysis of current and future workforce and economic issues related to the local childcare industry, with three expected outcomes:

    • Build a sense of local urgency and better understanding of the childcare industry among employers and policy makers.
    • Research best practices and compile possible solutions to the ongoing childcare crisis for consideration by the SFCC business and government working group.
    • Develop a strategy for tangible change in two sectors:
        • Policy recommendations for adoption by local and state government officials.
        • Workforce development blueprint that provides sustainable support for childcare industry workers, as well as employees with childcare needs from across the business community.

Funding for the initiative is provided by Forward Sioux Falls, Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, Sioux Falls Development Foundation, Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, and Sioux Empire United Way. Work will be overseen by the Sioux Falls Childcare Collaborative and Sioux Falls Thrive.
