Garden Week invites everyone to join hands and work towards a greener, more sustainable future.
With the help of volunteers, land partners, and community organizations, Garden Week aims to turn neighborhoods into vibrant green spaces where people can come together to grow food and strengthen community bonds.

Join us May 20-24! Starting each day at 9 a.m., organizers will be stationed at five core neighborhood parks, ready for a morning work shift aimed at cultivating beautiful garden spaces. In the evenings at 5 p.m., join us for a Social Hour and Garden Knowledge Share, where volunteers and community members can come together to exchange gardening tips and to socialize.

Monday, May 20: Meldrum Park,  1720 E. 6th St.
Tuesday, May 21: Lyon Park, 224 W. 9th St. – cancelled due to the weather
Wednesday, May 22: Terrace Park, 1100 W. 4th St.
Thursday, May 23: Whittier Park, 1009 E. 3rd St.
Friday, May 24: Pioneer Spray Park,  1789 E. Pine St.

Volunteers will gather to help establish “collective gardens” in publicly accessible community spaces, fostering a sense of collective ownership and responsibility. Additionally, residents are encouraged to host gardens on their own properties, whether in provided container gardens or on small plots.

This week-long event is part of the Food Security & Healthy Eating Strategy Team’s efforts, facilitated by Sioux Falls Thrive, to ensure equitable and sustainable access to nutritious food in every neighborhood, with respect for diverse cultural practices.
